You must be very careful when driving a rented car in Thailand. Not that it is very different from public cars but it’s for the reason that traffic police are very much attracted to them. They have special branding and some have specialized number plates. Thus, it’s very easy for police officers to note them than other cars on local roads.

When you have a rented car in Thailand, it’s important that you exercise great caution before and when you are on the road. Not that you will require having a specialized license to drive on local roads but a driving license is very important document to have at hand. You will probably be stopped in every roadblock and police will demand for your license.

It will be serious trouble in case you don’t have one and you are driving a rented car. By the way, which car hire company will give you a car without a license? Unless you have a driver, they will never take such a big risk. There will be no problem using your home driver’s license for few days but you must have an international license if you are in Thailand for longer like months or even a year.

The car hire company you engage should acquaint you with rules used on local roads. But, you should not wait until that happens since you can research on your own to get duly informed. Unlike in many countries of the world, driving in Thailand is strictly on the left-hand side of the road. You will have an awkward feeling if in your country you drive on the right-hand side. Make sure you maintain the right etiquette while on the road.

Parking is not problematic

For instance, tailgating is acceptable and you should not feel to be odd if that is not allowed back in your country. For Thailand, they are free with the behavior. Parking is a big issue but don’t expect too much trouble with your hired car in Thailand. Apart from public parking bays that are expensive, you will be able to park your car at restaurants and malls you visit for free as long as you are a customer.

Even from those that have charges, it is not very expensive. People don’t take seriously the ban on using mobile phones when driving but you should not emulate that otherwise you will be penalized heavily.
