As a third class, Nanki Shirahama Airport mainly serves the southern tip of the Kii Peninsula. The year-on-year influx of tourists from the Japan's capital has led to the increment of daily flights to three. In fact, Japan Airline has made the airport its minor hub in the south of the country. Nanki Shirahama Airport is located at Shirahama, Wakayama - a resort town that also doubles up as a coastal city of the Wakayama Prefecture. The beaches found at the town are of its kind as the white sand were imported from the distant Australian island. This explains the bustling of tourists along its coast.
If you need to head down to Osaka, it is just two hours away via a bullet train operated by the Ocean Arrow Train Service. On the other hand, if you need to make trips around the city, you should consider hiring a car from the local companies or just at Nanki Shirahama Airport arrivals after landing. There are other means of transport as well that include buses and taxi cabs. Often, many tourists prefer car for hire other to other public means of transport due to the convenience and the leisure derived from it. Besides, the drivers for rented cars are trained as tour guides as well thus they will be resourceful.
The town enjoys the warm temperate climate for most parts of the year, given its location at the Prefecture. Thus, the hot springs are common sights when you are in the city and they include the scenic Nanki-Shirahama Onsen and the Tsubaki Onsen which have been listed part of UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. Your trip will forever remain incomplete if you fail to head the direction of these wonder of nature. From the city centre, the site can easily accessed by a rented car ride, public transport or taxi.
